About

The vision of the Forest Hills CSA is to support local food production and consumption and make it accessible to all people. By building both consumer/farmer relationships and community awareness of the benefits and responsibilities of choosing fresh, seasonal, organic food, we are increasing our connection to the earth and to each other.

We were started in 2002, with the help of the Queens Community House.  We were later invited to our current home at the Church-in-the-Gardens  by the World Service Committee of the Church-in-the-Gardens.

We are a mixed-income CSA, offering low and middle income vegetable shares subsidized by full-share paying members, and some help from our vegetable farmers at Golden Earthworm Organic Farm [GEOF].

In addition to vegetable shares, we offer fruit shares from Briermere farm, another farm on the North Fork of Long Island, organized by GEOF.  GEOF also offers herb and tomato shares.

We also offer to our members the opportunity to periodically order cheeses, yogurt butter, meats, eggs, grains, beans, grains and flours, bread, jams, maple syrup, honey and more from a group of farms in Northern NY and southern Vermont, called the Lewis Waite Farm Network.

We are entirely volunteer run, and all our members need to volunteer a minimum of 6 hours a season.
